Mentor a Young Adult Aging Out
“Never underestimate the empowering effect of human connection. All you need is that one person, who understands you completely, believes in you and makes you feel loved for what you are, to enable you - to unfold the miraculous YOU.”
― Drishti Bablani, Wordions
Approximately 20,000 young adults age out of the foster care system each year after moving through multiple homes, having parental rights terminated or signed away and never being asked by anyone to stay. They have and continue to battle against the impacts of trauma, loss of relationships, inadequate medical care, disjointed educational opportunities, unstable housing, etc. .
They have had few, if any consistent people in their lives that weren’t court appointed. Their basic needs have been met by “the system” but there has been little personal interest taken. No one has been there to consistently affirm, encourage, challenge, guide, or inspire. They have not been equipped, but at 18 are still expected to enter adulthood, alone, and then judged if they fail. Well Rooted wants to provide consistent connections to young adults aging out of the foster system through Mentorship.
